Bonnie Biafore How to Reduce Your Project Costs
By Bonnie Biafore
You've diligently entered costs into your project plan and either looked at the resulting cost totals...or compared your planned costs against your budget... If your costs are coming out to $110,000 when your maximum is $95,000, you have to figure out how to trim $15,000 from your planned project costs or heads will roll -- most likely yours. How does one go about cutting thousands of dollars from a project? Answer: very carefully.

Reader Mail
Columns I'd Like to See in Project
Reader Nicolas Josse has been using Microsoft Project for eight years as a project manager. Recently, he put out the following question to other MPUG members for some help. This article encapsulates the discussion from beginning to end...

Defining Critical, Continued
In reply to Angelo Arcoleo ("Reader Mail: Another Perspective on Defining 'Critical'"), the method he described belies the importance of the critical path. It would falsely suggest that adding more resources to that task would shorten the project -- it won't, because it's not critical. Better to educate the boss on what critical means to the PM. If you want to delude yourself, then just use the Format settings to change the color of the bar to red. -- Mike Glen, Microsoft Project MVP

Featured Event: 29/2009 San Francisco: Personality Types and Predictable Projects.
Come join the SFO chapter of MPUG for two stimulating topics and presentations. Gilles de Bordeaux, PMP, DESS, will warm-up the audience with a session, "Personality Types and Project Management." Oliver Gildersleeve will follow with the main session, "Predictable Projects." As always, there will be appetizers and networking with interesting people. We look forward to seeing you there.
