      Hi,
I’m hoping to find someone who can explain how to differentiate user accounts from resource acounts using AD sync.
Initially I thought I would sync all users with project server and then pick out the resources using the ‘can be used as resource’ checkbox. However on the next sync all users become active resources again.
How do I ensure that there are only active resources in the resource pool and that all my users can still access Project Server.
I have around 200 users and 80 of these are resources. Any help would be very much appreciated.

      Hi Bill:
Here at QC, we use AD sync targeting a special AD User Group to populate Enterprise Resource Pools membership.  Just because a user is a resource, that doesn’t mean he/she is a user to access project server.
In the latter case, we utilize project user groups (also sync with other AD user groups) to control actual access to project server.
Long story short, when a person a listed as an ACTIVE resource, it doesn’t automatically grant the person the access to project server.
Hope this helps.  You can also contact me at jyin@qualcomm.com for further questions.
      Best, Joseph
