      I’ve searched the forum and didn’t see this question before, although it’s pretty basic:

      I assigned a single resource to a task. My developer is going on leave for 6 weeks (!) and I updated his calendar. However, I don’t see a split in the task for when he’s gone – nor do I see any reflection of his leave in the resource view. I’m hoping to show a dotted line (split) in the task without using the Stop and Resume fields. Why is Project showing the task as a solid blue line?

      Not a terribly eloquent description of the problem, but it’s late and I’m tired. Help?

      Hi Sarah,

      The Gantt chart shows (by default), the duration of the task, rather than an reflection of the resource’s allocation to that task on any given day, which is why you see the task spanning weekends aswell.

      Depending on what you want to show, you have a couple of options.

      1. Use stop and resume as you suggested

      2. Use SPLIT task to manually split the task.

      3. Use the Resource’s calendar to display non-working time in the Timescale – thereby showing their non-working time.

      4. Put a Note on the Gantt chart, linked to the date saying the resource is on holiday.

      I have tried the split, and have introduced one into a task, but I can’t drag it to the date I want to and have it stay there. I drag it across, 1, 2, even 10 days and it simply returns to the date I originally inserted it. If I drag the right-hand side of the split, it removes the split altogether.
      Am I missing something?
