Unfortunately you need to do one more thing. In order to combine the resources you will need a shared resource pool. It’s a bit more than what can be described adequately in an email but basically you would create another project plan that only contains resources and then reference those resources in each of the two projects. I might suggest reading up on it as I said it is a lot for a response.
Correct, you need a resource pool as well. However: WARNING – if you ever move any of the linked files, over-write them with other copies or rename any of them you rll the file corruption dice. It’s when not if corruption happens. If you have a wide area network that isn’t 99.99999999% reliable each network glitch whilst any file is open also roles teh dice.
Therefore I always insert projects into a master with teh Link option deselected. This copies all data and consolidates all resource iformation (no need for a pool). It also creates a great backup snapshot. To make this process quicker I usually record a macro of me creating teh master and run that each week. Note first task of recorded macro should be create a new file!
Like all other responses below. You need to create a new MPP file called Resource pool with just resource names. Open each project and assign resources from resource pool file. Only trick is you need to have resource pool project file open whenever you are updating resources.
I am having the same issue as discussed previously (but it doesn’t look as if it was resolved), and I’m hoping someone out there can provide some insight. This is for a “master schedule” which consists of embedded subprojects. All subprojects pull from the same resource pool. I created a separate project called “resources” which contains all the human resources. This is included as one of the rolled-up subprojects in the master schedule. When I click on “Assign Resources” at the embedded project’s summary level, it displays all the resources from the “master schedule”. When I scroll down to the very first task in that subproject, the “Assigned Resources” switches from the master schedule to the same embedded project it is a part of. Even when I go to”Resource Pool/Share Resources” and select the “Resource” project, the “Assig Resources” dialog box still shows the same embedded project that it is part of.
I would apprecaite any help – this seems pretty basic, but I cannot seem to meet my objective of pulling resources for every embeded project from one pool. Thank you very much.
