MS project 2013 standard – need to add numeric sorting coulmn

Morning,

I was given tasks in a sequence – i need to break the sequence into groups (within the plan) – I added a text field and put the numeric numbers (sequence order) in the text field. However when I try to sort, it only sorts within the group there are located on the plan itself and won’t free form sort like an excel spread sheet.

My ask – how do I add a column that will allow a free form sort? Example – on row ID # 99 – is the sequence number 1 that is in the text field column I added, when I try to sort, instead of the sequence order going to the top of the plan (as I had wanted) it only sorts to the top of the group that it is located within. SO, it goes to position 1 – but only in its sub section.

Colin, have you done the following?
1. Make sure there is no “Group By” applied.
2. In the Sort window, un-check the “Keep outline structure” box.
