      Wodering if anyone has had the same problem? / Has found a solution? Any help would be appreciated.

      I have a task in my project that is being completed ahead of schedule. When I apply the progress line to it I would expect the line to jump forward ahead of the status date to show that we are ahead. As it stands there is only the percentage complete bar on the task bar for reference.

      Hello Alasdair,

      Try this: select the following checkbox, which is unchecked by default, in Project Options dialog box and re-enter the percentage value.

      Project Options | Advanced | [x] Edits to total task % complete will be spread to the status date

      Hope this works.

        Hi Ismet,
        I was looking all morning for an answer to this question and you’re solution is the only one that includes the missing piece of the puzzle. You tell us to “re-enter the percentage value”. I’d been doing everything else but not that step until you pointed it out.

      Ismet – I need clarity on Edits to total task % complete will be spread to the status date check box. I set the status date two weeks later than current date and updated the % complete of a task that starts today. I don’t see the actual work of the task spread till the status date. Am I missing anything here.

      Hello Sai,

      This is how it works:

      Project Options | Advanced | [ ] Edits to total task % complete will be spread to the status date

      Initial schedule: img838.imageshack.us/img838/3108/beforeck.png

      Now select the checkbox for the related option and re-enter the percent complete values.

      Project Options | Advanced | [x] Edits to total task % complete will be spread to the status date

      Modified schedule: img35.imageshack.us/img35/8940/afterb.png

      Hello Ismet,

      Thanks for the details. It works.

      If  Edits to total task % complete will be spread to the status date is checked, I wanted to know

      a) which cases should this option be checked?

      b) In http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/341/91828140.png/ the 5 days task with 40 hours is scheduled before the status date and is set to 50% complete. Before this option is cleared, the 50% is divided as 20%, 20% and 10% with actual work as 8 hours, 8 hours, 4 hours. If this option is checked, the 50% is divided as 10% for all the 5 days with the actual work as 8 hours, 8 hours, 4 hours. This looks odd as how can we say the task is 10% complete on each day by the work is 8 hours per day.

      Hello Sai,

      I understand your point. Indeed, it seems rather a rhetorical question since I would probably want to ask the same question to the programmer who wrote that part of the code. This is how it works and it was good enough to solve Alasdair’s issue. As Dominic Moss said in a forum thread: “we all keep learning courtesy of Microsoft!”.  Thank you.

      Hiii everybody,
      I have a problem with the progress lines in MS Project 2010.
      I was trying to compare the tasks effective progress with their baseline forecast. All is working good except for the summary task, which is ignoring the buffer time between tasks.
      I want to know if there is the possibility to exclude the summary tasks from the progress line or a way to adjust its value.

      Alesssandro,
      I have already answered your question here at https://www.linkedin.com/grp/post/1834068-6040145165983772676 (and I also see Larry has provided the answer in the next thread) but there is no harm in repeating it here. There is no way to do what you need. MS Project calculates the progress points for the summary tasks and progress lines always pass through these points. As I did in this article http://www.msptips.com/SP.html, you can mark your own progress points on the summary bars if you turn the progress lines off.

      Hi Ismet,
      I have an inactive task in my project. When using the Progress lines and selecting Display Current Date. The Progress liens shows the Inactive task as Late. I was hoping that as the task was inactive that Progress Lines would ignore this task!
      Is there a way to get progress lines to ignore the task?

      hi there,

      when I set my status date to april 13, my progress lines don’t appear vertical, they show more horizontal and go on for a 1 year past the project end date. I don’t have any tasks tracked past april 13. I don’t understand why it is doing this.
      Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? thank you
