Reporting Period? MS Project Server 2010

As we all know, any status report is a snap shot of a certain period in time.  Does anyone know how to create status reports with a reporting period associated with projects in Project Server 2010.  We created a Status entry PDP for projects but Project Server doesn’t seem to have a reporting period field (we understand that we can create a custom field called this) that can be associated with project status such as scope, schedule, cost, etc.; Project Server only maintains the values of the last “updated” date and not a particular reporting period.  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
