      Here’s the problem: it has the start date, end date, and hours/days estimate for the work. In the resource field, it may have 3-4 resource people listed. MS Project is calculating the hours by multiplying the estimated time x the number of resources, so if it’s 1 day and 3 resources, it is showing 24 hours total, instead we want 1 day divided by 3 resources, so total amount of work is 8 hours and each resource time to be also shown as 8 hours.
      Is there any way to go about this. I am in need of urgent help.

      The setting that will do this for you is Effort Driven. This tells Project that you want to keep the effort (hours) consistent when you add or remove resources. To set this for new tasks, go to Options / Schedule tab, and set the New Tasks Are Effort Driven checkbox to selected. If you have an existing project, you will also need to reset this for existing tasks. This can best be done either by using the Effort Driven column or the Task Information dialog.

      The other setting that goes hand in hand with Effort Driven is Default Task Type. If you want effort to be maintained when you increase or decrease duration then set the task type (Type) to Fixed Work. If you want to increase or decrease work to match duration then set it to Fixed Units. Default Task Type is just above the Effort Driven setting.

      Is there a way to show the total work/actual work of the task as being equal to that of the resources assigned? Like if resource 1 is utilized for 8 hr and so is resource 2 for 8 hrs. The total work done by the task should be shown as 8 hrs. Another question is how to merge two or more cells containing same data to avoid duplication?

      This is very similar to another question not that long ago I believe on this same forum. Check it out. Basically the task shows total work from all resources. Unfortunately you can’t add 8 + 8 and get 8. Your other question could be resolved by using a calculated field depending on what you are trying to do.
