My current role requires me to create a Resource Pool and/or a Master Schedule for a Programme of work. This is fine, I’ve done it before… but this organisation uses eRooms to store their individual Project Schedules.
I’ve worked with eRooms before also, but have never been able to successfully (with 100% conviction) use a Resource Pool or have a Master Schedule work from MS Project Schedules that are saved in different eRooms… I think it’s possibly due to eRooms using virtual file locations, and not fixed…
Has anyone had any success managing a Resource Pool and/or Master Schedule (from individual Project Schedules saved in multiple eRooms)?
If so, I’d love to hear your tips for making it work.
We’re using 2010… not that I believe that should make any difference.
PS: I’m about to head off for 2 weeks holiday (vacation) in a few days, so if you respond and I don’t get back to you it’s because I’m not in the office, I’ll respond on my return.
You are working with 2 conflicting requirements. Using erooms and share resource pools – don’t work. The links between the MS Project files are exact disk locations. You are right – erooms is using virtual and web locations which doesn’t work for resource pools.
You might have to let management know that you have a software restriction that will not allow you to do both – they have to pick one or the other.
Have a nice holiday – I am about to leave on 2 months on the road for work – I think you will have more fun. Best of luck to you.
You are most welcome. Sometimes rules do not match software capabilities and decisions must be made.
