We are running Microsoft Project Server 2007 utilizing the WSS for our project workspaces. However, a couple of our projects, are long standing efforts in “ongoing” or “release” mode. These efforts have full blown Enterprise SharePoint sites to manage the collaboration of not only the project efforts, but the product development lifecycle as well.
I would really love to have the Workspace link in Project Server to point directly to this larger site directly for those efforts related to it. I have looked at changing the URL through the admin functionality, but it looks like the “web application” (or start of the URL) is locked so that my only options are the server(s) where we installed Project Server. I know I can take the Project Server generated site and add a link, but asking the team to go through that way would create confusion (and my fear that people would start using that site instead of the main site).
So, is there a way to add the option of a different “web application”? Or, is there a way to write a full URL for the link ignoring the “web application”? Or, finally, is there a URL trick which will make the hyperlink ignore the start of the url (a stretch I know, but thought it was worth mentioning)?
Any advice/guidance is greatly appreciated.
We are running Project Server 2010. We have the same issue – long running projects with existing sharepoint sites and would love to know if there is a work around for it.
You should be able to select the web application where you create the Project sites, but this will obviously affect all new sites. If you can’t, then perhaps you don’t have Admin privileges for both Project Server and SharePoint?

Sorry, but I don’t have a dev PWA to try this on. Hope this helps!
