Robert, if I get your question, you would just add a subtask under “development” and devote a portion of the day to “development support.” The overall task would be “development” and would take the appropriate amount of time minus the development support time during the day.
hi Dan, I do remember reading in this forum about a search limit of xxx or xxxx? characters, and that’s it. So for example, if u have a very long comment, I don’t think the MSP will find the search string after that break point. But this is just a feeble memory….
I can’t see ur sheet, but the first Summary task would start on the Project Start Date. Check that, and if so, move the project into 2021.
Hi Rosie! Those are calculated from the tasks below, within the summary, and should not be changed. They can be hidden, but manually typing within those cells will mess things up for an automatically-scheduled sheet.
I think that’s an excellent question, unfortunately (from my experience), u need a custom macro designed for your setup. Ive never seen the 2016 (or 2019) standalone version successfully import and export sheets with precision, unless u hire someone to make it so. But I’ve been retired a few years now… perhaps there is a younger solution.
OR use a cloud service that honors ur local file system, like Dropbox and many others. Install that, and you should not have to re-link anything. (Other issues arise, but related to the cloud in general). This may be a useful tact if you have hundreds or more files to relink.
hi class, 2016 had a lot of graphic bugs, so first u should check and make sure you are at the latest release level for that version. It that does not fix it, there is always a complete reinstall of MSP. If that does not work, well, there is MSP 2019, which works great in Win10. Cheers, Jigs
Well, there is Project Plan 365, a direct replacement for MSP that’s lighter and works on all platforms. Does not have all the social interactions that Teams does – its just plain old Microsoft Project file-editing 🙂
Cheers,
Jigs
yes, Ismet rocks. Another thought that I had was to use Evernote in another window, and link to it from the notes field…
Ha, yes, that will put the first 255 characters of note data in a cell, The only other think my feeble brain can think of is to create a custom report using the notes field only… that might do it, not sure 🙂 Give it a try!
SURE DAN, just add the notes field to any view, such as the Gantt, and you can just scroll the screen and see / edit all the notes from the view. Best,
Jigs
ur very welcome Rosie!
Hi Varun, if I understand what u are trying to do, I’d say stop cutting and pasting! That only preserves what you see during the cut, if I recall.
So, for a 28,000 activities schedule, that should be a master plan that imbeds a subproject of 19,000 activities stored in another file. 9,000 activities are in the Master Project, and 19,000 are in the Sub Project, just to be clear.
I wrote up the detailed cut and paste procedure once… but alas, it was a different time 🙂 But its not hard, starting with the original plan, dup that, cut them up in the correct proportions, then imbed the sub into the master – done!
@George Rooney: hi George, there is an app! http://www.projectplan365.com – not sold by MS, but it’s been out for years! Works great, 100% compatible, and if ya know MSP, ya know this app as it works pretty much the same. Best of luck!
