Microsoft Highlights AI in Conjunction with Earth Day

Microsoft recently took the opportunity to highlight AI (artificial intelligence), and reported that, as a company, they are working to improve access to and training on these newer technologies. To celebrate Earth Day, multiple stories across their blog platforms highlighted the power of AI and how it’s providing new ways to help humanity help the Earth. From snow leopard selfies to AI for Earth, Miscrosoft says its offering up new ways to enable anyone to protect the planet.

The Seattle Times Tackles the Subject of Contract Work

Laura Zera’s recent article in the Jobs section of The Seattle Times cites some interesting stats from the 2017 Anderson Economic Group analysis commissioned by the Project Management Institute. We can learn from the survey that an average of 214,000 new project management jobs will be open each year in project-oriented industries through 2027. As Laura points out, that’s a lot of work. Interestingly enough, not all of it will be done by full-time employees, but by independent contractors. So, how are project managers getting contract work? There is word of mouth, LinkedIn, employment agencies, and good old fashion interview skills.

One Million Every Twenty Seconds

Did you know there is one million dollars wasted every 20 seconds collectively by organizations around the globe due poor project management practices? We’re pulling that data from the 2018 PMI Pulse of the Profession project management survey. PMI President and CEO, Mark Langley, attributes this wastage to three key issues. Basically, we are looking at:

  • Organizations failing to connect the gap between strategy design and delivery
  • Executives not recognizing that strategy is delivered through projects
  • Low levels of recognition of the importance of project management
