As all of us register for and take the new Beta Exam for Microsoft Project 2010, I would love for each of you to post your overall thoughts, impressions, and results (that is if you are willing to share them), of the exam here.

I was amazed that the test center had scheduled 4 hours for the exam. After completing all the questions I found out why … MS then expect you to spend the rest of the time providing feedback on the questions. No chance … my head was fried by then and going back to locate questions that I felt did not work well was just not going to happen!

I was surprised that 4 hours were allotted for this test as well. The questions themselves were pretty solid questions. I had expected more of the "show us how to do this" questions that are present in many of their other exams. I had a lot of questions trying to trip me up on the difference between a view, a filter, and a group.
The wait… leaves a little to be desired. 1 week down, 7 more to go.

I have been using MS Project 2010 Step By Step and Ms Project Certification Guide as my references for the exam
Look forward to the exam 😉

I took the exam last week and recommend that you understand how Excel and Project both previously and present interact.

I recommend to just go to microsoft.com/project and have a look at all the demo videos available there, e.g. about the new top down scheduling approach that even got a name. This will give you 20-25% of the points. There rest looked like anything we were tested on in previous exams.
      Good luck!

I was one of the last gaspers who took the exam today. I thought 4 hours was a lot of time, but I filled it up reviewing lal my answers and giving feedback on some of the questions. I didn’t mind not doing the "show me" stuff because I think that kept me focused on the theory behind some of the actions. Some of the questions were tricky, but in a good way. I

I’ve done the exam this morning – the last day which I can choose. 🙂 I think the numbers of Qs are appropriate. You can always leave anytime before the end of 4hrs. It took 2hrs or so to answer all the questions. However I did spend a great deal of time in providing the feedback. I got to say the webseminars helped me hugely to understand the new features in 2010 edition, so a big thanks to MPUG! Wish you all have a properous New Year of 2011!

It would nice if the Microsoft extended the Beta test time. Only having it available during December greatly cuts down the amount of time available to take it with the holidays etc.

I’m feeling pretty disappointed. I was scheduled to take the Beta this morning and had to cancel due to a situation at work. I guess I’ll have to wait until the exam opens. I wish good luck those who are taking the exam today and would like to thank those who already took the exam and offered reviews.

      Everyone
I too my exam on 30th, at test center in Glastonbury, CT
As all have said before me 4 hrs was lot of time to complete the exam. I took a littel over 1 hr to complte the exam and spent another 1 hr reviewing my answers and giving the feedback
Overall studying for the exam itself was good value add for me to use the product even better.
Wish you all my best for new year 2011

Took the exam on New Year’s Eve (last possible day). Exam seemed to draw from the knowledge areas as given. I haven’t taken a cert exam in years and I thought MS had decided to take the experiential (show me) testing approach, so I was a bit suprised by the standard "multiple choice, use English grammar to help eliminate answers" exam.
The only book I used was Microsoft Press’ Microsoft Project 2010 Step by Step by Carl Chatfield, PMP and Timothy Johnson, MCP. Felt good when I was done – I have that feeling either when I’ve nailed it or when I’m totally clueless. Guess I’ll know in a few weeks which one it is this time.
In the meantime, I’m assuming the worse and working my way through Sybex’s Microsoft Project 2010 Project Management: Real World Skills for Certification and Beyond by Robert Happy, PMP, MCT.

Passed the Beta – can safely say now that reading and completing the exercises in the Step by Step book is enough to pass.

      Ditto:
4 hours is a lot of time, even for the 75 beta questions. I also expected more interaction instead of text questions. Still an improvement from 70-632
