I manage the company template which has customized header / footer information. One of the fields used in a footer is the version of the template, which is a file property field.
I know I can use some standard fields as variables in headers / footers, such as &[File] or &[Date]. Can I do the same with custom property fields, such as &[Version]? This would save me from updating all views manually when I create a new template.
Hi Martin,
Welcome to this Microsoft Project forum:)
Try it and see! You didn’t tell us which version of Project you’re using, but from the Print Preview window select Page Setup. In the dialog, select the Header (or Footer) tab. Click the drop down arrow next to Project Fields, and select he custom field (eg Text1) in which you have put your version info, and then Add/OK. That should do it!

Hope this helps – please let us know how you get on 🙂

Thank you very much for your response! Btw: I am using 2010. That’s almost what I want, I learned that I can use some more fields than I had known (such as custom task fields). However, I would like to store the version in a custom file property field (which can be created selecting File – Info – Project Information – Advanced Properties – Custom). I guess If I wanted to use a task field I would have to store the value in the respective field of Task 0, right (e.g. Text1 of the project summary task).
Hi Martin,I think you must have the Professional version as that field does not appear in the Standard version. Unless someone who has Prof version can advise otherwise, I believe you have the best solution as I don’t know how to access the field you want.Mike GlenProject MVP (97-11)See https://tinyurl.com/2xbhc for my free Project Tutorials
Martin,
Sorry – I’d forgotton to click on Project Information! Nevertheless, I don’t know of a way of accessing this data.
