I have a schedule started in Project 2007, using my organization’s custom calendar, which includes all company holidays. Now my manager has asked me to make the entire week after Thanksgiving and the entire week after Christmas non-working days for the project. I tried to add these non-working days to the custom calendar but I’m not able to change that. I can’t change task calendars because we don’t want any tasks being done during these time periods. Is there a way to add these non-working days to my project calendar without altering every individual resource calendar? The organization is on Project Server 2007, but we are using a local copy.

      Thanks!

Hi, If your project is an enterprise project, ie it was created using an Enterprise Calendar within Project Server, then you will need to modify this calendar (and this is done by the Project Server administrator).

However, you say you are using a local copy – if this is an .MPP plan and it is not stored on the server, then you should be able to modify the Project Calendar – Tools – Change Working Time, and set the exceptions for the holidays you require.  Tasks will now be rescheduled.

I’m guessing your issue here is – “I tried to add these non-working days to the custom calendar but I’m not able to change that.” – I don’t really understand what custom calendar you are trying to change – you should be changing the Standar (Project Calendar)

      Regards,  Ben.

      Hi Ben,

Thanks for your helpful response and screen shot! After I posted the message, I realized I neglected to mention that the “custom” calendar I referenced is an Enterprise calendar. Rather than having the Server administrator modify the calendar, I had the user create a custom calendar for her project, then add the extra non-working days and switch to that calendar in Project – Information. That was probably overkill; I could have done what you suggest below and have her switch the the Standard calendar and put the non-working days in there.

      Thanks again for your help,
      Sandie

What you mean by the above is not clear to me.

What is the point on adding non-working days to the project calendar but not getting the changes reflected on the resource calendars ?

Task calendars are usually created as a copy of the project calendar. Resource calendars are created based on the project calendar by default.
