I’m having difficulty understanding the nuances of the CompleteThrough, %Complete and SummaryProgress representation of progress on Summary task bars.
What is CompleteThrough showing? For purely sequential tasks it seems to align with rolled up %Complete. With complicated schedules with many parallel and overlapping tasks it is vastly different then %Complete. What is it illustrating?
I thought I was getting a good handle on things when I discovered SummaryProgress value. It is also different then %Complete. What is special about what it shows?
I’ve searched the web and Microsoft FAQs. I’ve searched my MS Project books. I can’t find an explanation what these display presentations indicate nor when one dispaly is preferred over the other displays.
Can someone explain the 3 and when to use them and when not to use them?
Bob
% Complete and SummaryProgress,
Hello Bob,
Have you seen the Help article for Summary Progress here at:
https://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/summary-progress-task-field-HP045305360.aspx
Regards.
% Complete and SummaryProgress,
Thanks for that link. It is much more informative than other descriptions I’ve found.
% Complete and SummaryProgress,
You’re welcome. Unfortunately, the article does not provide detailed information on how Project calculates Summary Progress value.
Bob,
Better late than never. So here is my answer to your post: https://www.msptips.com/SP.html (How Does Project Calculate Progress on Summary Tasks ?). I would appreciate your comments on this.
