      With the U x D = W formula, MSP forces every task with resources to match the data points consistently in all actuals.  Wouldn’t it be nice if we could use the formula to predict, but enter our own actual data as it comes down the pike?  I personally hate seeing a duration column of 3 days, but a bar chart that spans 2 weeks.  This is the kind of thing that happens when we have to ‘live by the formula’.   I know there are options that allow us to enter our own actual costs, but I would rather have an option to disregard actual costs and labor calculations entirely for if they don’t fit reality.

      If you use MS Project 2010 in Manual task mode the formula does not apply. This will allow you to enter duration, start and finish dates, work, and resource as you see fit. Hope this helps.

      We are not moving to 2010 yet; we use 2007.
