When attempting to use durations entered in units of months, weeks, e weeks, or e months we found that MSP does not forecast the finish date accurately. This has led us to set up a best practice of entering all of our durations in our projects in the unit of days or e days. Has anyone else come across this same issue?

I have used weeks and months in Project 2007 without any change to the project finish date.

I have not encountered the months and weeks issue in MSP. The company I work for follows the 8/80 rule for assigning duration. In most projects I have managed, I found this as a  good rule. It keeps my project tasks very manageable and easy to control.

I found a better way in managng the tasks and durations when entering units. Move all constraints dates to deadline. This way your finish date will not mess up.

Can you expand on the 8/80 rule? What exactly is it?
