This is not working in my straight out-of-the-box Microsoft Project 2010. I have changed the security settings in both MSP and Excel to allow macros (of courser now it is not out of the box…), enabled everything that can be enabled in the Trust Centre for each, and still get a message: “Excel is busy. This may be because Excel is currently waiting for user input. Switch to Excel to solve the problem then try again.” It does not make a difference if Excel is open or not, or if other files are open or closed.” I do not have this problem in 2007.

      Hi Darya

      Are you using Server?

I’m having similar problems (see my post from June 6th, 2012) and can’t find any help of suggestions that work on any of the forums I’ve posted this issue to.

My work-around is to copy/paste the information from project into excel and create my own pivot tables & charts.

Not what you’d want to hear for sure, but at least you’ll get a report out of it!

No it has not been resolved, and I am not using Server, although I have the professional version. I think it is an out-of-the-box error that Microsoft should fix. I have changed all sorts of security and macro settings thinking that might be the source of the problem, with no luck. Copying & pasting is not a solution – too time-consuming. Instead, my workaround is to upload Microsoft 2003 back on to my computer as that is the last version that generated good earned value data and curves in Excel (Analysis toolbar). I instruct scheduling and Microsoft Project and I am telling users not to bother with Microsoft Project if they want to use earned value. Yes, I am terribly annoyed that with every new version, they make it prettier and add more toys, but the really useful stuff for advanced schedulers disappears.

I managed to get rid of this error by systematically disabling all of the .com add-ins that I was using. I had one from Nuance that turned out to be the root cause.

I don’t believe I have any .com add-ons. I do have Risk+. Do you really think that is the problem? Not being an IT person, I do not know if something else crept in and where to find it. Can you please advise?
