      Hi all,

I want to combine fixed work and fixed duration for a big project. I need to have task that (for example) go on for 2 weeks, 40 hours. I don’t mind that a resource has 40 hours on 1 day. I just want to have both fixed. Is that possible?

      Thanks!
      Mariska

Mariska, the only way to truly guarantee this is to not change the task. The task can move as a result of predecessors or other factors that change the start date; but just don’t change the duration, units, or work (or assign additional people). If you leave it alone, Microsoft Project won’t change it by itself (assuming you don’t do anything advanced like use resource leveling, etc.). Hope that helps…

      Hi Mariska,

I believe using Fixed Duration task type with the Effort Driven field checked will accomplish what you are expecting. Microsoft Project will not recalculate duration if the task type is Fixed Duration and it will keep the work constant if the “Effort Driven” check box is checked, thus the only field Microsoft Project can recalculate is Units. Hope this is what you are looking for.
