Can anyone recommend a good reporting tool that I can use with Project (2003, 2007 and 2010)?  I’ve been using Milestones but wondered if there was something a little more intuitive…

      Thanks

      Hi Shelley —

The answer to your question depends heavily upon what type of information / reports you need to see. Do you need to see task, resource, or assignment information? Do you need to see it in tabular or graphical format? Do you need a snapshot in time, or a distribution of numeric information over a timeline?

There are many ways to get the information that you need directly from Microsoft Project without a bolt-on tool, as long as you know the basics of how to manipulate project data. Also, from one version of Microsoft Project to the next, there are different built-in reporting and visualization tools available. For example, in 2007 they introduced the ‘Visual Reports’ feature that allows you to easily dump data out to Excel and Visio and create Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, and Pivot Diagrams. In 2010, they introduced the visual ‘Timeline’ feature that many people love.

If you can provide more information about tools that you’re currently using (MS Project versions, Project desktop vs. Project Server) as well as they kind of information you’d like to see, then perhaps I can be more specific.

      Good luck!
