Many companies do not keep up with the latest versions of Microsoft Office Project.  Are there statistics available, for stand alone desktop (not server, but that would be interesting to know too) users related to what version is used most?  I am using Microsoft Office Project 2007 for example, simply because that is the version my company uses.  Curious to know what version most companies are using today.

I think users are all on various levels.  A month ago I worked for a financial group and they were using 2003.  Most of my IT groups are using 2010.  I also have many on 2007 in various lines of business.  Manufacturing is also slow adaptors but I just finished a proposal to upgrade a manufactor from 2003 to 2010.

Look at the capabilities and functions you need to create your schedules.  Many feel what they have is enough capabilities in the older levels and don’t upgrade.  2003 has not been supported for years and support for 2007 will go away by the end of 2012.  Another new version is on the horizon which you should be hearing about this summer.  One thing I look at is if you have other people feeding you schedules and they are on different levels this will cause a problem.  Don’t try to bounce around between levels – this is the best way to corrupt files.

I’ve taken recent polls at our MPUG meetings and 2010 is just starting to take the lead over 2007.  2003 is pretty non-existant anymore but as you know is still out there.  Of course we are polling MPUG who are all about MS Project.  I think you would get a better idea of true numbers if you polled a PMI group.

Agreed, Michael.  As a Contractor who regularly moves around, I have found that the large Financial institutions are definitely slow-adaptors.  Still running into version 2003 in some of the smaller companies as well.

Would also love to see some stats.
