    Can anyone point me to documentation that explains the “behind the scenes” logic used by MSP when leveling resources?
    I’m using Project Server 2013 and Project Pro 2013.

    I’ve used several different tools in the past and with each tool I could find scheduling and leveling logic documentation. At times, this information helped us debug a schedule issue and determine what to adjust when the leveling results weren’t as expected.

    Thanks

    Daryl, great question. I use resource leveling often and learned it myself. Unfortunately real documentation is pretty light because of the real or perceived complexity of resource leveling lack of common use. I found that using resource leveling effectively is a combination of knowing the engine and proper usage. I did an MPUG webinar back in 2009 that might be recorded. I also did a three-part series in June 2014 “Managing a resource constrained project” that describes my setup and execution process using resource leveling. Outside of a basic internet search I don’t know where you can find good documentation. Hope that helps.

    As a follow up, in case anyone reviews this initial post, I created a 13 part series on how leveling works. It also includes a 2 part webinar. The first article in the series can be found here;
