I realise this subject isn’t specifically related to MS Project, but it is related to scheduling, so I thought there might be someone here who can assist me.
My investigations have shown the current books to study for the PMI-SP Certification include:
PMBOK Guide 4th edn, specifically Chapter 6 – Project Time Management.
    PMI-SP Exam Specification.
    Practice Standard for Scheduling.
NOTE: the Practice Standard for Scheduling talks about also knowing the 2 standards below:
Practice Standard for Work Breakdown Structures,
Practice Standard for Earned Value Management.I’m aware you can purchase a PMI-SP Study preparation guide via a company called uCertify (www.ucertify.com) – I don’t know how useful it is yet as I haven’t sat the exam.

My question relates to a study guide for PMI-SP. People studying for the PMP seem to have ample study guides available to them – just google it and you’ll see what I mean. However, those of us studying for the PMI-SP have nothing available to assist us.

If you look at the current PMI Library of Global Standards you will see another 2 publications:
Practice Standard for Project Configuration Management, and Practice Standard for Project Estimating.

Should we also study these publications for the exam? Where do we draw the line at what books to study?

Is there anyone who has the certification that could provide some advice for those of us currently studying for it?

Thanks in advance for any assistance given.

    Kylie.

    Kylie,
I completed my PMI-SP certification in January.  I used the PMBOK, specifically chapters:  Time, Cost, Communications, Risk, Scope, Project Integration.
I caution you to not just concentrate on Project time only because when you are scheduling alot of areas are inputs and outputs.

Thanks so much for your feedback Sue, it’s really appreciated.  I’ll definitely pay more attention to the PMBOK chapters you specified, thanks for pointing those out.

You also might consider looking at AACE material. They have a PSP (Project Scheduling Professional) certification guide that you might find helpful. You are right, the material out there is not strong – which is why we created a course geared to the PMI-SP certification. email me if you want to know more (duma@procept.com)
