My resource managers are used to going to using a system where they could bring up a view of all of team members assignments by project by week. The RM could then change the assignments for all team members on one screen with of course some scrolling. We migrated to Project Pro and PWA. RMs can see the assignments by project by week in the Resource Center, but they cannot edit the hours in the view. The RMs now have to go to each project in Project Pro and edit the assignments. It is time consuming. The RMs are not happy with this.

Are we missing something? Will the new Resource Engagement feature allow this easy editing of assignments?

      Thanks,
      John

That’s a tough one John. Project Server is all about having the Project Manager managing the project and resources assigned to that project. I can tell you that you aren’t the only one with that challenge. Project Server (if an application can talk) will tell you that if RMs are managing assignments then you should setup a project for each RM. I know, not realistic…but you can see the dilemma. Good luck…

      Larry,

I understand what you are saying. What are others with this challenge doing? We have a new implementation of Project Pro/PWA. The PMs love it and the RMs are frustrated. I am going to look at the new Engagements feature in hopes of getting the RMs back in the fold so to speak. Right now they maintain their resource forecasts in an XLS on SharePoint.

      Thanks for you continued support,
      John

I thought about resource engagements and it does provide a way to have the RM assign resources to projects. I didn’t say anything because from your question I didn’t think it was an answer for you. Any tool out there will be based on the project and not an individual assignment. If that is an option then resource engagements might help. Good luck, and I don’t have a better idea for you. Again, the tool is “primarily” about the PM owning the project.

      Larry,
I am exploring and testing Resource Engagements …
      Thanks again
