Home › Forums › Discussion Forum › Project 2013 – Sorting by date, duration etc not working in custom report
I’m trying to pull together a single custom report showing all the items that will be going through to the project board with estimated dates for when they will go through to them.
I have created the report with task headings, resource used (filtered to just the project board) and start dates. When I try and sort by start date it does not seem to sort the tasks in any sensible order (i.e. 2014 and 2015 board items remain listed apparently at random).
Can anyone give me any suggestions about why it might not be sorting properly? Just checked and it does the same when I try and sort by duration etc.
Thanks a lot for your response Ismet.
I’ve just tried creating a copy of the project and sorting in the Gantt view rather than a report but it’s still not sorting in any meaningful order (although it is changing the order of the tasks).
Just tried on a different project template I downloaded from the internet and it worked fine on that so think it must be something about the data I’ve inputted.
Afraid I don’t know about the SP1 and cumulative update – I’ve got Project installed on a work computer so I assume it’s an up-to-date version.
Matt
I’m having the same problem and have (I believe) the latest Project 2013 Standard (15.0.4727.1001 MSO 15.0.4727.1003, 32-bit). Does anyone know if Microsoft has acknowledged this as a defect (assuming it is in fact one)?
The latest updates to Project 2013 should be 15.0.4745.1000 – so you are missing a few updates. I cannot reproduce the error you note – a custom report sorted by duration or start or finish works fine.
Does anyone have found a solution to this sorting problem? I have the same issue with version 15.0.1753.1000
Sorry in my previous post the version should have been 15.0.4753.1000
Same issue here. Installed version 15.0.4771.1000 (Project professional 2013). Does anyone found a workaround?

Matt, Have you installed SP1 and the latest cumulative update ? As a quick workaround, create a copy of the mpp file, open it and sort the tasks and then create the report without sorting in the report.
— Just in case, pls check the setting “Fiscal year starts in” on the Schedule tab of the Project Options dialog box. Is it January ?
— And also check the version information from the Account tab in Backstage (click File > Account | About Project). Let us see the whole version string (e.g. … 15.x.xxxx.xxxx SPx MSO …) to understand the update status of the product.
This is the Update Center for Office products: https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn789213(v=office.14). It can be verified with the IT Dept. that whether they include Project updates in their update routine.
