Enterprise Resource Calendar Maintenance – ProjSrvr2010

Does anyone find enterprise calendar maintenance as much of a pain as I do? Maybe others have found better ways of dealing with these issues.

I don’t like the fact that we can edit most of the enterprise resource data with PWA but must have Project Pro to edit the resource calendars. We want the resource manager to own and maintain the data for the people reporting to her, and the resource manager is not a project manager. Why must we buy every RM a Porsche and teach them to drive it just so they can go the last block to the supermarket? (But it’s not a new Porsche; the clunky UI for editing nonworking time is a throwback to the 1990s.)

We really feel that calendars are the right way to manage nonworking time in the MS Project world, but it’s painful. Has anyone discovered a better way to maintain them? Perhaps a third party tool for editing or import/export of calendar data? It would be great to have staff enter their vacations in an Outlook or Sharepoint calendar and sync it to Project Server overnight.
