We plan to have a series of products produced per year, based on past demand.  These known products take between 2 weeks to 8 months (approx. 370:35).  We need to plan to take on additional larger projects however we need to forecast how many of these larger projects could be completed given our remaining capacity.

We are thinking of using the Team assignment pool, and setting up a project schedule that would reflect the annual demand to compare against our ongoing actual demand per year.  Has anyone else done this?

What version of MSPS are you using?

      Hello Kim —

In order to effectively model resource supply and demand in Project Server, one approach is to develop project schedules to represent your products and model each side (supply vs. demand) with a set of enterprise resources You then map the supply & demand resources together with an enterprise resource custom field that represents the role or skillset of each resource.

If you’re planning to attend the Microsoft Project Conference in Phoenix, AZ in the spring, then I will be presenting a session titled ‘Managing Resource Supply and Demand with Microsoft Project Server 2010

Visit the Microsoft Project Conference web site for more information about the conference (https://www.msprojectconference.com); a detailed agenda and topical descriptions will be posted as we draw closer to the conference date.

If you’re not planning to attend the conference, then you may want to consider it… it’s a very valuable learning and networking opportunity.

      Good luck!

Thank you for the information.  We are using MS Project Server 2010.  We have found a possible solution on https://www.egl.co.nz/?p=549 that we are presently in the process of testing.  Will let you know if this worked.
