I like to cram a lot of data into the Notes field; excerpts from outlook emails, etc, but I’m finding that I’m unable use the Find command to find tasks that have the target text that I’m seeking – even when I’m looking right at it. When I search this way I choose ‘Look in field > selected > Notes’ match case off and it doesn’t matter whether I’m searching up or down. Does anyone have any insight as to why Project is unable to find Notes text that is clearly visible?
Thanks,
Dan
PS. The text that I’m searching was pasted into the notes field as unformatted text.
I too am a heavy notes field user here, and I don’t seem to have any problems. I am using MSP PRO 2019 MSO (16.0.13029.20342) 64 bit. Could be an issue with ur version? Also, u have the Notes field added to the view u are searching through, right?
Jigs,
What I’m finding online is that only the first 255 chars are searchable. Are you finding that you can search more than that? I’m using MSP Online Desktop Client MSO 16.0.12527.20612 32-bit
Thanks,
Dan
Dan, I think u found a bug *or is it a feature where MSP only searches the first 255 characters and then bails in any field string. Congrats! I wonder if they still give out mugs and tees for finding these? Good luck.
But the bug makes sense, MSP was coded back when I was using a DOS computer and had to load the app on a floppy disk.
…so you’ve confirmed v19 is only searching the first 255 chars?
yes, exactly so. I am also asking my pal over at http://www.projectplan365.com to investigate. If it’s fixable, he will most likely fix there.
